Someone has to do it, it might as well be us.
When sewage backs up into your home, it’s more than a mess. It’s a health hazard. The emergency work is only the first step. The goal is getting your home safe, clean, and fully restored so life can move forward.
At Paulson Fire & Flood, sewer backup cleanup is handled by our local team from start to finish. We don’t just remove what’s damaged. We properly contain, sanitize, dry, and rebuild as needed.
Our experienced crew and dedicated project managers guide the process clearly and calmly. From contaminated material removal to structural drying and full reconstruction, we take care of it under one roof.
We stand behind our reconstruction workmanship for as long as you own your home. That’s how we help our neighbours across the East Kootenays get back home with peace of mind.
Our Process
First Steps to Protect Your Family & Home
Keep children and pets out of the affected area to avoid contact with contaminated water.
Do not run sinks, toilets, dishwasher, or laundry until the issue is assessed.
If safe, turn off the main water supply and HVAC system to prevent further spread.
Do not shop-vac, mop, or bleach sewage. It requires professional containment and sanitation.
Sewage is highly contaminated. Our team is available 24/7 to respond safely and quickly.
Paulson Fire & Flood has been serving Cranbrook and the East Kootenays since 2002. Over the years, we’ve helped many local families and businesses recover after fire, water, and flood damage. Like any long-standing local company, we’ve also had times where we knew we needed to do better.
That’s why we made the decision to reset and rebuild. We’ve refreshed our team, strengthened our standards, and updated our logo and look to reflect where we’re headed. Today’s Paulson is focused on clear communication, skilled workmanship, and doing right by our neighbours. Our goal is simple. To take Paulson back to the strong, dependable local company it has always been meant to be.
If your sewer backs up, it’s important to first stop the source of water by either calling a plumber or doing it yourself. You’ll then need to clean and restore your property to avoid any health problems associated with the sewage water. Paulson Fire & Flood can provide sewage cleanup services so you don’t have to worry about health hazards or damage to your property.
If you experience a sewer backup, the first step is to turn off your water and call a professional plumber who can repair the source of the water damage and clear any blockage in the sewer line. Once that is completed, Paulson can provide immediate assistance to extract water and remediate any damages.
It depends on the size of the problem. A small drainage leak on concrete floors is not an emergency. A larger leak that impacts porous materials and contents is an emergency. It is best to turn off the water at the source and call a plumber to clear the blockage.
If it has not affected porous surfaces such as carpet, hardwood or drywall, and there isn’t a significant amount of standing water, you may be able to cleanup sewer water on your own. For example, if your basement is unfinished and consists of concrete flooring. In this case, we recommend using Lysol on concrete rather than bleach.
Each situation varies. Typically the emergency stage ranges from 3 to 7 days and the administration phase ranges from 2 to 16 days. After that, your reconstruction provider should be able to give you a more accurate estimate as to the length of time needed to complete repairs. These timeframes can be significantly extended in situations with large or catastrophic loss.
